During the time that I had been working at Dorking I managed to get the bug that gave me the goal to Work From Home when I was off sick for a few days and had taken home what was an early laptop, and during the time I was bored I finally got round to write a story that I had been thinking about for ages. I really enjoyed it and as it turned out I now really do Work From Home having done a series of Online Jobs having had my own Internet Business and then being employed bycontracted to another one. It was a bit of good fortune but quite far removed from the second major project I’d been on which was a turning point.

It was not possible in those days (it was 1995) to work for an Internet Business or have any kind of Online Jobs as those that had beed founded tended to be based in and around Palo Alto in California, and Dudley is very far removed from there, for that is where I found myself.

The second project was my first as an independent freelancer. It was being run by IBM scopeof the work was to supply new domestic customer service systems to the electricity board which had a need to upgrade existing systems which had been in operation for many years.

The project had already been going for about a year when I joined, and was almost exclusively staffed by freelancers on the developer side whereas the designers and analysts mostly were permenant staff with either IBM or the client company. It worked efficiently, the climate was enthusiastic, dynamic and serious but with a fun undercurrent.

It was also pretty multi cultural as freelancers from Australia and the United States were with us as well as staff from an IBM partner company from Poona in India. For the Brits, we were from all over United Kingdom and it made for lively chat as people teased each other based on regional or national stereotyping. If a police car went by with its sirens blaring, someone would calm down any Australians who’s convict DNA might have been shaken.

Socially it was very active. As freelancers we were very well renumerated and as such we had many opportunities for amusing ourselves, though a usual rule was that on Thursday nights we would go out in a big group to an area called The Waterfront which was the entertainment area of the Merry Hill development, a picturesque area of bars and restaurants built along the canal-side.

I started out for the first 15 months or so living at a hotel next door to the office building, but after that I moved into a house that was rented by a group of fellow colleagues which in a bizarre twist of fortune, in later years I was to purchase. We had great fun there as a group having a large Scalextric track in the lounge and video games, but also we all had computers and were spending increasing time on the internet, which by this time was starting to grow into a useful tool as opposed to a fun toy.

The project stopped when the Labour regime was elected and Gordon Brown imposed windfall taxes on the electricity utilities. Ours was punished so much that the money had to come from the investment budget which resulted in our project becoming too expensive and was therefore shut down.

So the internet was expanding and slowly an Internet Business was beginning to emerge although it hadn’t yet been worked out how to make money from it, for instance there were very few shopping sites around, but the evolution was well underway and the stock market was beginning to bubble as investors looked to get into the Internet Business. It wouldn’t be long before it became widely available to more people to get on and develop it as a business tool.

Whenever somebody retires, after doing work at a place until it is traditional to do this, they’re typically treated to goodbye celebrations as well as unique presents. Retirement is actually a stage that will come in each individual’s life. Lots of people think about retirement to generally be the peak of their lives, while other people worry that it is the conclusion.

The corporation or group that the retiree is leaving, usually comes together to find that man or woman a personalized retirement gift. When a person has devoted hard work towards the job that they have been given, in addition to much of their lives, the standard feeling of businesses is they have earned a unforgettable gift to bring with them to their next stage in life. Giving unique retirement gifts to employees might be your way of saying thanks, and appreciating his time put in as part of your employment. The hope is that the retirement gift you present this person might be a thing they may enjoy and appreciate always.

Depending on the amount of time and effort you wish to put into the gift, you can find unique items you can find, from mugs and posters, to slightly crazier investments. The gift decided on by you represents your feelings of affection and esteem that you hold within your heart for your employee. The options don’t end at what was mentioned before, think of other items like gift vouchers to a restaurant or spa, customized coasters or figurines, or lots of different other options to offer to your retiree. Or,if you happen to have a preference for something even bigger, look at the wide variety of gift baskets made, offering wines, spa essentials, make-up, or pet supplies, that can be custom made for your retiree. You may pick out one which you think will be adored and valued by the person whom you are gifting.

Sometime’s we are wanted to pick a present for a co-worker who’s of particular significance to us, then we should contemplate one of a kind gifts. By picking out a gorgeous wine glass, photo frame or other medium, you can etch a great number of things that might be special, from initials to a individual message. If they’re very important people, contemplate buying crystal with the added drama, with crystal balls, paper weights, and vases. Colleagues and pals of really special people may want to shop for a product like this to signify how much they care.

Take a look at the limitless possibilities you’ve got in etched mirrors, particularly when you happen to be trying to find something distinct and unique. You will discover a huge amount of different suppliers that can make what ever glass etching you ultimately choose, and they will be made precisely to your criteria. It is a great way to show personal treatment, and you may decide to put whatever you want onto this glass, whether it be a particular picture or maybe a personal message. By choosing to give a gift like this, you’ll be giving the retiree a very caring and deep memory of all of the extraordinary moments of their career, and exactly how much they loved their coworkers. There are many different looks to select from, numerous shapes, sizes, and designs that will all be swapped to create the piece special to both you and your retiree.

Your retirement gift can vary, based on what exactly your relationship and association is with the employee you happen to be losing. Look at even giving them sporting equipment, knowing what they’re excited about something specific, like golf equipment or maybe a custom made baseball bat. Any particular gift you choose can be custom made with initials, the date of their retirement, or another special message of whatever you select. When you happen to be looking for a retirement gift, make sure to look in stores and on the web to locate a gift that tells your retiree exactly the message you hope to say to them.

There was an illuminating story on the BBC news recently when Luca di Montezemolo, the chairman of Ferrari and it appears the 3rd most famous man in Italy after the Pope and Silvio Berlusconi, called in and was interviewed saying that he did not predict a period of European austerity affecting sales of the company’s road cars or peril to the marque.

And it goes without saying that he is right, practically nothing could ever have that outcome on Ferrari and companies like them, short of prohibiting cars completely or all the money in the world disappearing.

Most children, especially boys, who grow up without being able to expect one for Christmas or their 18th birthday, will have had the name of Ferrari imprinted on their souls from about the minute they became aware of cars. It will be further entrenched when the awareness comes that it is possible for anyone to possess one (or more) if they have enough money and that is coupled with a spirit of ambition.

During the 1990’s it seemed all anyone needed to do was announce that you had founded an Internet Business, money poured in as investors fell over themselves to get in, hoping they were backing the next Ebay. At times like these in any field of endeavour when financial success is achieved, a visit to the showrooms stocking goods with mythical names such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Asprey, Christian Lacroix, Sunseeker and the like shortly follows. Lottery winners, footballers getting their first big contract and anyone who has made their fortune soon beat a path to the shops with bulging wallets.

Those who, for example Work From Home doing Online Jobs may very often plan to generate enough money to do the same. Possibly by putting aside the cash they save by not commuting to work any longer into an interest bearing account could be one method.

Of course the car does not need to be new. Anybody familiar with the marque will have their individual favourite Ferrari model. Mine is the 328 GTS for example which was mainly famous in “Magnum PI” when it was driven around Hawaii by Tom Selleck. For me, only the later 355 comes close for sheer prettiness and of course the performance would be riduclous by modern standards. Old models of course are much cheaper to buy than a brand new model although of course still a major buying choice. What must also be remembered is that these types of cars are not in reality, as cars, the best. Far from it. They tend to be delicate, unreliable and when they do go wrong, unless the owner is either loaded or very good with mechanical matters, costly.

In order to nurture a dream and to keep it on track, it is necessary to do more than just keep it in mind. Visible reminders such as screen savers, stickers, toys or models are useful and for those who Work From Home have the advantage of course that they can have them around the office or on the desk and computer.

The start of the affair occurs when young, perhaps the first experience of seeing a car go past looking exotic and futuristic, fast, sleek and making the most joyous noise of barely controlled, snarling fury.

Brands like Ferrari, Aston Martin for cars, Christian Lacroix in fashion, Cristal champagne, Asprey for jewellery and all these famous names will in all likelihood never go away because they perform an important mission. They encourage ambition, feed desire and enterprise – no, not always for good – but they stand before everyone and say ‘here we are, you can have us but you’ve got to come and get us’.

But, to own a Ferrari on a day like this, well if one had an Internet Business and did Online Jobs and could sort out an hour while the roads are quiet….

When I left a major project in Newcastle in 2002, I ended up once again out of work and looking for a way to Work From Home as I was getting frustrated with finding myself out of work through no fault of my own, due to decisions taken through corporate or national politics, had closed down projects I’d been working on.

The internet had by now developed and become a normalan everyday part of life. Just about all of the regular shopping that anybody wanted to do could be done over the internet, any business that did not have a website was felt to be at a major disadvantage and the dot com stock market bubble had gone pop demonstrating toshowing everybody that an Internet Business was merely a business at the end of the day – it just didn’t have a shop floor.

I did not get to Work From Home however, because I ended up being offered a job in Canberra and joining the fourth and last of the major projects that I was to work on.

I was to be working for the Australian Customs Service (ACS) which I thought was a fine idea. My view of Australian Customs was sitting on a beach with a cold one and a barbecue and going out for a swim or surf. Sadly it wasn’t like that, it had more to do with constructing an Import-Export Tracking system. My job was to develop the program that permitted exporters to lodge the details of an export such as what was being sent, if it was going by plane or boat, which port of exit would be used and what the ultimate destination was.

My wife and I left in early September via Seoul and arrived in Sydney, toured for a few days and then went by the train to Canberra. When we arrived we knew a lot of people as we had worked together previously and when we found a flat, things settled down nicely.

For the first time, internet considerations were a part of the work I was doing. Most major exporters would lodge exports by using massive files electronically sent to ACS, but smaller ones such as web sites could send in the details via a website and do it there. My program had to be able to deal with both identically. Testing it via a ghost website wasn’t what you’d call doing Online Jobs as such but it was the first time I’d been required to do that, and the Australian Customs Service wouldn’t see itself as an Internet Business but was an example of an institution using the technology and adapting itself to take advantage.

Whenever we could, we took ourselves away at weekends to go to places away from Canberra. Sydney was marvellous to go to for weekends, also the coast was an easy enough drive away. With a group of mates we went to a beach resort for Christmas. Now that would be an idyllic location to be able to Work From Home!

One of the reasons we had decided to take the job and go was due to the Rugby World Cup being held and I got tickets to some of the local matches and also won the opportunity through a raffle to apply for tickets for the semi final in Sydney.

It all came to an early end however. The firm I was contracted to that was supplying me to the ACS ran into cashflow difficulties and needed to reduce the contracts of foreign consultants (the opposite approach to British government projects). Sadly this coincided with my team finishing our main development work and so myself and 2 others had to leave. This required selling my rugby tickets and coming home as I was not able to get another job in time under the conditions of my visa.

So we returned home and I was more determined than ever to set up some kind of Internet Business, Work From Home and do some kind of Online Jobs which would mean I would be under my own control instead of blown about by the winds of other peoples’ circumstance.

Do you hope for a nanny state or an independent free thinking country? Are we in fact morally bankrupt to sanction more and more online gambling sites, or are we merely responding to the demands of society? I guess it depends where your private inclinations lie about gambling, and the capability of people within society to police their own habits. I reckon most of us like a flutter now and again, even if it merely a tombola at the church fete.

With Merrill Lynch estimating global revenues of around $177 Billion from online gambling by 2015, it isn’t difficult to see that this distinctive Internet Business is not going away. The USA more than any country is wrestling to know how and if they should limit online gaming. Politicians from the state of New Jersey in the USA convened a meeting this week to discuss legalising online gambling from casinos. They project that 1500 skilled Online Jobs will be produced and the state itself would gross $200 million from taxes from gambling revenues. The state of California is also considering whether to legalize online poker. Maybe the impending $19 billion budget discrepancy is a big consideration in undertaking this step. The only way to bar the residents of California from coerce gamblers to use the three sites recognized by the California Department of Justice. This restrictive practice would be somewhat un-enforceable and put forward for the wrong kind of reasons. People will usually find a means round the legislation and gamble where and when they want. With more people online and able to Work From Home, the huge abundance of betting sites, and the anonymity of placing a bet is far more alluring to people. The stigma of visiting to a seedy betting shop has been instantly removed. This opens up gaming to a whole new section of society, many of which are middle class and fairly prosperous. Gambling is certain to grow not reduce!50

Nevertheless, looking at the aspect of job creation, the jobs associated with the Internet Business are readily adapted to the gaming industry. Examining the skills required, many are remote Online Jobs which can be accomplished by people who Work From Home. All across Europe and the USA there are thousands of jobs which at first glance would be akin to any other commercial IT based business. Just like any web based company, gaming organizations need web designers, project managers, trend analysts, marketing executives etc etc. The ethical choice to work in the gambling industry is no different from other industries which have a bad reputation from a few sections of society. Is being employed by the MOD worse or better than say Diageo or William Hill? Are Online Jobs associated with the gambling business in the least bit worse than factory based jobs making depleted uranium shells for the British Army? In the UK we have lost hundreds of thousands of jobs from the primary industries such as coal, steel, manual farming and more recently electronics, textiles and cars. The UK is now a major service provider and as Internet Business continues to grow, more and more of our citizens are going to be channeled into industries associated with online gambling and online gaming. Conceivably the irony is, that in some ordinary urban street, one neighbour can anonymously gamble online, another neighbour is equipped to Work From Home as web site designer for a gambling company, while a third works for Gamblers Anonymous. Conceivably all three neighbours are utilizing the World Wide Web to interact indirectly with each other. What are the odds on that!!!

The new government faces, as we know to our dismay, the worst economic legacy bequeathed it from its predecessor of any since the end of WW2. Gordon Brown’s exiting gift is his economic miracle, where he told us that he had got rid of boom and bust, the ‘business cycle’ and laid the foundations for constantgrowth over many years. We must be perpetually grateful.

As also must the people of Greece, Spain, Portugal and Ireland. Our former Supreme Leader lectured the world that the way to defeat the recession that was nothing to do with him, was to borrow lots of money and push it into government projects to revive faltering economies. They did and now their capability to pay back the debts they incurred is being seriously doubted in the bond markets and they could yet put the Eurozone into coma as a result.

Here in the UK, it is impossible that the new administration can do nothing in the short term apart from to cut deeply into what the government spends money on. This is almost certain to mean a shrinkage of staff numbers in the public sector, which became hugely bloated from 1997 onwards. The wags who pointed to the bizarre positions being advertised in The Guardian jobs pages, were highlighting not just the silliness of them for themselves, but the fact that if someone absolutely had to be brought in as a ‘5-a-day coordinator’ or ‘Acne Outreach Advisor’ or whatever, it gave the impression that money was being spent for it’s own sake and not giving the public with anything that was actually needed.

As people in the public sector working in areas likely to fall under examination begin to consider the future, they could do worse than consider getting out ahead of the rush for the exits, crossing the Rubicon to the private sector and seek out Online Jobs which allow people doing them to Work From Home. These jobs, ordinarily working for an Internet Business require only the minimum of equipment to get going, that is a computer and a broadband connection.

Training may be required in whatever field chosen as the disciplines probably won’t have very much in parallel with a job in the public sector such as taking photos of pot holes and weighing wheelie bins However, many companies will provide the required skills transfer. The main difference with Work From Home is obviously the fact that there is no direct physical contact with colleagues, but this can be overcome by use of software such as Skype which permits instant communication, telephone and video conferencing so that all colleagues are always in contact.

And of course it won’t only be the Government and public sector bodies having to look for ways to save money. The cost of living particularly is going to alter and everyone will haveto look to their own household requirements. One way to save money of course is to Work From Home which means that the cost of travelling to work is immediately saved, good news with the price of petrol and diesel rising. And if VAT is also going up, then working for an Internet Business would be an excellent situation to be in as those of us having Online Jobs will be able to save more money by making our own lunch, cut back completely on clothes for work (not required at all on hot days) as well as the usual problems that go with commuting e.g parking the car for the day, weather conditions or crowded and unpleasant buses or train carriages.

The government worker whose employment is under threat could do worse than take precautions against the what is coming and get on with looking now for an alternative. Online Jobs are offered in growing numbers, it’s a a choice that could suit very nicely.

Telecommuting or e-commuting is an arrangement where the company grants some flexibility on the location where the employee works from. Usually this has mostly concerned employees who Work From Home either full time or part time. In 2008 it was believed that 50 million US workers might work from home, nevertheless only 2.7 million employees stated this was their place of work. The amount of infrequent tele-commuters was around 17.2 million, but a lot of them spent time in cafes or other places where they could obtain access to a wireless link.

The growth in laptops and notebooks and UMD’s is making the habit of using a pc in a public place, like reading a book or writing a note in a diary. With no wires or power cords involved, and only the space needed for a small plate, the social acceptance of these mobile devices is growing steadily.Entire groups of co-workers nicknamed “Jellies” are meeting up in cafes or other locations, to talk about work, or just to socialise and to ease the loneliness common with employees who Work From Home.

A lot of Online Jobs could be done from home or a different remote location. nonetheless the take up is pretty slow. By 2011 the US Government envisages a growth of 65% in remote workers. Private industry envisages that their remote employees associated with Internet Business will increase by 35%. The Federal Government is aggressively pushing for more tele-commuting. This is not an altruistic action by them as the amount of financial savings is rather staggering. By permitting employees to Work From Home they predict that a whopping $13.9 Billion USD may saved annually on commuting costs. Tied to that same saving would be anyearly fall in pollutants by 21.5 Billion lbs.

Social networking technology is also filling the gap that office socialising once filled. One of the bonuses of Online Jobs is that staff can switch from a work related article to a social network site and back again instantly. As more employers drive Internet Business out of the office and into the home and other remote locations, they will start to understand the need for connectivity between remote workers. Hopefully they will allow the indulgence of workers to occasionally view sites like Facebook or Twitter. Managers have to realise that isolated workers are most likely more productive at home. Time lost in the office due to late starts, coffee breaks, gossiping before and after meetings etc will be traded for some personal time spent on web browsing and domestic tasks. However overall productivity ought to be better as there will be less interruptions and workers can choose to answer a call or e-mail immediately, or leave it till later.63

UMD’s such as mini notebooks and mobile devices similar to smart phones etc are the newest group of gadgets that will transform Internet Business, and really let remote workersoperate anywhere they want. Several devices will have partial functionality and will be tailored for specific business conditions. This should lower their cost of ownership. As demand for these UMD devices grows, the reach of free wireless connectivity will also grow. Remote Online Jobs are not only the preserve of the home and trendy coffee shops. Free wireless connectivity needs to be available in public places like malls, sports centres, parks and airports. It needs to be virtually anywhere you could possibly put in an hour of two of work and benefit from the presence of people around you. Only then will we realise true telecommuting.

If someone is looking to set up their own business, one of the many challenges that can be faced is searching for a building from which to conduct trade. New starting shops or offices for professionals still follow the old saying ‘Location, Location, Location’ as far as being onto a winning start.
Opening up in the wrong street or where potential customers and clients won’t find them is an inherent jeopardy and will make life more difficult than it already is for a new business.
The other difficulty is that the optimum places will be more expensive in rent and business rates to maintain which will offset the benefit gained from being in a better site. It’s a difficult balancing act but a decisive one to get right.

However, this is not a problem that may worry someone setting up an Internet Business, whether it is a firm developing web based technologies such as websites for clients, or someone who uses the internet to carry out their business. The simple solution here is to work from home. This need not concern just the firm owner who may be establishing the firmas a one man band in the early days. Once established, he can advertise Online Jobs when he needs to employ people who can also enjoy the advantages when they work from home. Let’s see how this works.

To start off with, when someone is establishing an Internet Business they will discover that almost everything they need is accessible from online services. There is no necessity to have any equipment bar a computer and a broadband service. Even a phone isn’t required as they can utilize Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) software such as Skype. Servers can be leased cheaply from hosting companies, or if the firm owner is technically expert then a server can be set up in a corner of the office, but there are noteworthy costs involved in this and at the start a better use of resources to use someone else’s services.
Software can be purchased, or is often free if you can locate Open Source versions that can provide all the admin and accounting needs to control costs, create and track invoices, create VAT returns etc. Additional software to enable mass emailing campaigns, database management, online documentation sharing, even the capacity to connect directly to someone’s computer in an office anywhere means that almost anything you need to do in a ‘proper office’ can be set up on the most basic laptop.

As the firm expands and staff are needed, vacancies for Online Jobs can be offered meaning that someone can be contracted and set up in the same way to let them to also work from home using some of or all the same resources which means that the expenditure of providing a place of employment is saved for all the same reasons given above.

So, as we see, the upsidesof someone able to start and Internet Business by being able to work from home and staff the firm by using Online Jobs is a sizable one. It means that anyone with the technical expertise (which are easily learned) can become self employed with all the upsides that brings at a fraction of the expenditure which often make entrepreneurship out of reach of many.

It is, and has long been, an employee’s right to end their employment subject to the appropriate legal procedures being followed. While many workers are critical to a firm’s success, and many have regarded themselves as indispensible in the past, it is rarely, if ever, the case that an established business closes down due to the resignation of one worker. A recent survey showed the rates of staff turnover for United Kingdom firms in 2008 and it has produced some interesting points for discussion.

The overall rate of staff turnover in the UK in 2008 was 15.7%. The figure is calculated as the number of workers who resigned from a business during the year as a percentage of the total workforce number during the year. As an example, if a business had an average workforce of 100 during 2008, then it might have expected, on average, about fifteen workers to leave the business during the year. This might seem quite a high percentage but 2008 was a time of credit crunch and the figures are influenced by redundancies and reductions in workforce sizes. Redundancies obviously add to the numbers of workers leaving but when they and other leavers are not replaced then the average workforce size is reduced and this increases the percentage figure obtained using the formula mentioned above. The impact of these two topics on the overall figures becomes clear when one looks further into the survey results – twenty six per cent of firms in the UK made 10 or more employees redundant in 2008 and thirty per cent imposed a block on recruitment.

The impact of employees resigning] varies according to the amount of good quality replacements in the catchment area and the survey emphasises this point by revealing that turnover rates are highest where unemployment is low and it is not so hard for employees to obtain alternative employment. The ability of the employees who leave is obviously an important issue, especially if they go to work for a direct competitor or if they were in customer contact or Online Jobs and have become particularly popular with clients. On the other hand, the company can benefit if a poorly performing worker opts to leave and is superceded by someone who can extract increased Internet Business from the role.

Flexible working has been used as a means to manage potential staff difficulties since its official introduction in 2002. Allowing employees to work part-time, job-share or, if their jobs are suitable for it, to Work From Home, has allowed firms to keep some employees who might otherwise have had to resign if they experienced changes in their personal circumstances, such as a need to care for children or other dependents. Through the use of state of the art communication technology a lot ofroles can be converted to Online Jobs. Indeed, a modern Internet Business probably is happy to let its employees Work From Home as it will have been established to exploit the latest communication technology and will be making cost savings in office space.

Companies can help themselves to reduce the impact of staff turnover by ensuring that their recruitment techniques are sound enough to ensure that new employees will merge into the company well. Steps must be taken to avoid the possible scenario where employees leave within months of being employed due to employers issuing vague job specifications to applicants or implementing poor induction programmes for successful candidates.
